Reformulate, duplicate and replace ingredients
All plans
Scale a recipe to another quantity, create variants from a copy, swap one ingredient for another and follow how its cost changes.
What it is for
A living recipe changes: you go from the notebook, written for ten cakes, to producing just one; you want the same cake gluten-free; your supplier stops delivering a flour and you have to use another. Redoing the recipe every time is slow and opens the door to mistakes.
The recipe editor has four tools for these cases: Reformulate, Duplicate, Replace ingredients and the cost history, which shows you how the recipe’s cost has moved over time.
Before you start
- Open the recipe from Recipes › Recipes and formulas. Reformulate, Duplicate and Share are in the more-options menu in the editor’s top bar; Replace ingredients is in the ingredients menu.
- To duplicate, you need room within your plan’s recipe limit.
- 1Reformulate: scales all the quantities to the new quantity.
- 2Duplicate: a full copy for creating a variant.
- 3The Cost block with its variation opens the cost history.
Reformulate: scale to another quantity
Open Reformulate
In the top bar, click Reformulate. The Reformulate recipe window shows the Current quantity (in kilograms or units, depending on the recipe).
Type the new quantity
In New quantity, enter what you want to obtain. All the quantities are adjusted in the same proportion.
Check and, if needed, go back
Check the result. If it isn’t what you wanted, open Reformulate again and click Restore previous quantity.
If you want to have both the large and the small cake at the same time, don’t reformulate: create a Production Format. See A recipe’s formats.
Duplicate: create a variant
Click Duplicate and confirm in “Duplicate recipe?”. A copy is created with all its ingredients and settings. Rename the copy and adjust whatever is different: the gluten-free version, the seasonal one, one in another size.
From the same menu you can Share the recipe with another Recipok user. And if a recipe is no longer made, Delete sends it to the trash, where you can restore it for 30 days.
Replace ingredients
Click Replace ingredients in the editor’s ingredients menu. For each ingredient you want to change, search for the new one in Replacement ingredient. Review the Replacement summary and confirm. The quantities stay the same; the cost, allergens and nutrition change according to the new ingredient.
When you change an ingredient, the allergens may change. Check the allergen card and reprint the product’s labels.
To find out which recipes an ingredient is in before changing it, use the “View recipes with this ingredient” icon on each line of the editor.
Cost history and trend
In the top bar, the Cost block shows the current cost and its Variation. Click it and choose View full history to open the Cost history:
- Current cost, Average cost and Range (minimum and maximum).
- The Cost evolution chart.
- The table with each date, its cost and its variation.
Recipok saves a snapshot of the cost every night. To find all the recipes that have gone up, use the Variation filter in Recipes and formulas. We explain it in Recipe costing.
